Condition Report: Very Good. The original dark blue cloth binding remains structurally sound and secure, exhibiting only minor shelf-wear and light rubbing to the corners, alongside gentle bumping to the spine extremities, typical of careful handling. The gilt lettering on the spine remains reasonably bright and legible. Internally, the fore and bottom edges are untrimmed, as called for in this variant. The pages show scattered light foxing, most notably to the title page and preliminaries, but the text block remains largely clean, supple, and readable throughout. It is a handsome, intact copy that has avoided the heavy wear often seen in volumes of this vintage.

Catalogue Note: This is a First Edition, First Issue (Roberts Variant No. 1) of D. H. Lawrence's second volume of poetry, distinguishable by the untrimmed fore and bottom edges and the inclusion of the 16-page publisher’s catalogue at the rear. Copies in this initial state are increasingly scarce on the open market, having been printed in a modest run of only 900 copies, some of which may have been advance issues.

The book bears noteworthy provenance, featuring the striking ex-libris bookplate of Olga Casdagli affixed to the front pastedown, alongside a contemporary previous ownership signature on the front free endpaper.
