Condition Report: Very Good. The book is securely bound in its original dark blue buckram with bevelled edges, remaining remarkably firm and square with no leaning or looseness to the text block. As is frequently encountered with this specific Gregynog Press edition, the spine exhibits noticeable sunning and fading, though the gilt titling to both the spine and the upper board remains impressively bright and unoxidised. The boards themselves show only marginal rubbing at the extremities, having been well-shielded by a clear protective sleeve. Internally, the heavy Batchelor handmade paper is exceptionally crisp, clean, and entirely free from foxing or prominent blemishes, retaining its untrimmed fore and lower edges. The hinges are perfectly sound, rendering this a highly respectable and sturdy survivor of this small limitation.

Catalogue Note: This distinguished edition was printed by Robert Ashwin Maynard at the esteemed Gregynog Press in a strictly limited run of 175 numbered copies, this being one of the 150 copies bound in buckram (the remaining 25 were issued in levant morocco). It is exquisitely set in Baskerville type on premium Batchelor handmade paper, featuring the iconic Gregynog woodcut device printed in striking red on the title page.

The Gregynog Press, established in 1922 in Montgomeryshire, Wales, rapidly became one of the foremost private presses of the twentieth century, celebrated for its rigorous typographic standards and exceptional craftsmanship. Given the small limitation size and its stature within Welsh private press history, this edition appears only sporadically on the open market, particularly in such tight, internally pristine condition.

Originally published in 1710, this compelling work stands as a seminal classic of Welsh Quaker literature. It offers the first-hand autobiography of Richard Davies (1635–1708), a devoted hat-maker from Welshpool who became the first prominent Quaker in the region. Davies chronicles his profound spiritual awakening, his tireless missionary travels, and the severe religious persecution faced by early Friends in seventeenth-century North Wales, providing a vital and enduring historical record of the Quaker movement's formative years.
