Condition Report: Very Good. This two-volume set remains in highly presentable and structurally sound condition, defined by its remarkably tight, uncracked bindings and square text blocks. The original burgundy cloth boards are robust, retaining their deep colour with only very minor shelf-wear to the corners and light bumping at the spine ends. The gilt lettering to the spines remains sharp and unoxidized, complemented by relatively bright gilt top edges. While the deckled fore-edges exhibit the expected age-toning, the interior leaves are crisp, exceptionally bright, and entirely free of foxing, with the Chiswick Press imprint pages presenting flawlessly. Overall, a handsome and well-preserved set.

Catalogue Note: This first edition thus (serving as the intended biographical supplement to the original Biographia Literaria) was edited by A. Turnbull and printed by the esteemed Chiswick Press (Charles Whittingham and Co.).

Issued as part of the well-regarded Bohn's Libraries series, both volumes feature distinguished blind-stamped borders and the publisher’s traditional bell-and-anchor device on their title pages.
