'Chalk' is set in the Twyford Down road protest in the early nineties. It's a love story, a coming of age story. It's about belonging, roots, protest - and violence. Violence to the land, in the family, to the protesters. The Twyford Down protest was real and fought with great courage. The story and characters are fictional. The legacy remains today in the scarred Hampshire countryside and in the memories and hearts of those who were there, those who live there, and those who were inspired by the protesters and their struggle to protect the landscape.
