Condition Report: Near Fine. The binding remains exceptionally tight and square, displaying no discernible shelf-wear to the sharp corners or the vibrant aquamarine cloth. The gilt tooling on the spine remains remarkably bright and unoxidiaed. Internally, the pages are crisp and clean, retaining excellent brightness with only the faintest whisper of standard dustiness to the top edge, completely free of foxing or internal marking. The unclipped dust jacket is beautifully preserved, exhibiting a striking black and green design with vivid, unfaded colouration and only minimal rubbing to the extremities, presenting handsomely overall.

Catalogue Note: This is a true first edition, first printing of the fifth entry in Watson’s celebrated Flaxborough Chronicles series. The volume is presented in its original primary binding.

While the dust jacket features an iconic cover illustration by Salim Patell, the interior text remains unillustrated. Early UK first editions of this title, particularly those retaining such a well-preserved original dust jacket without significant fading or loss, are increasingly scarce on the open market, as many surviving copies are heavily worn ex-library stock.
