Condition Report: Very Good. The volume is half-bound in leather over green cloth boards, displaying rubbing, fading, and wear to the spine, raised bands, and leather corners. The gilt lettering to the spine remains legible though somewhat dulled, and the leather joints exhibit mild cracking and stress typical of an antiquarian volume. A distinct scuff mark or stain is present on the front green cloth board. Despite this external shelf-wear, the binding remains remarkably tight and sound. Internally, the marbled page edges retain their decorative appeal, and the text block shows only mild, scattered foxing and age-toning, primarily to the preliminaries.

Catalogue Note: First Edition is handsomely presented in a contemporary half-leather binding over cloth, featuring raised bands to the spine. The volume is thoroughly illustrated with numerous engraved lithographic plates and a folding map, which chart the topographical changes of the region.

The book possesses a rather unique vernacular provenance, featuring an early pen ownership inscription belonging to a "W. Wainwright, Lynwood, Tarleton". A previous owner has pasted two sepia portrait photographs onto the preliminary blank pages. One photograph is identified in a neat period hand as "Squire Robert Townley Parker," offering a lovely piece of regional personalization and historical intrigue.

Complete first editions of Hardwick's Preston history in contemporary bindings are increasingly difficult to source on the open market, making this an appealing acquisition for collectors of Lancashire topography.
