Condition Report: Very Good. The original half-green cloth and glazed pictorial boards remain structurally sound and tight, a commendable state for Victorian-era children's books. The boards exhibit expected age-toning, gentle surface rubbing, and minor edge-wear, particularly around the cloth-tipped corners, though Greenaway's central cover illustration retains its charming clarity. Internally, the binding is secure. The pages display standard light, intermittent foxing and handling marks primarily confined to the preliminaries, yet the vibrant chromolithographic illustrations remain bright and unmarred by heavy offsetting. A handsome copy.

Catalogue Note: Early reissue by Frederick Warne & Co. Following their acquisition of Kate Greenaway's publishing rights from George Routledge & Sons around the turn of the twentieth century, Warne continued to print these beloved titles using the original woodblocks meticulously engraved by Edmund Evans. Therefore, this represents a First Edition Thus (or First Warne Edition), capturing the exact layout, format, and illustrative brilliance of the true first.

The book is lavishly illustrated throughout with Greenaway's iconic, idyllic visions of childhood, replete with high-waisted dresses, bonnets, and pastoral innocence. The dedication page features a beautiful vignette paying homage to the children of Frederick Locker, a celebrated poet and man of letters.

Copies found in their original glazed boards without major structural defects or crude amateur repairs have become increasingly scarce on the open market, making this an excellent addition to any collection of Golden Age children's illustration.

Near Fine The book has a number of small flaws, i.e. slight rubbing to the edges, or tiny chips or creases to the dust jacket (if present). Its pages may have faint marks, or creases that are barely perceptible — nothing that detracts from their overall condition.
Very Good The book maintains its structural integrity, and has no major flaws such as tears to its binding or pages.
