Condition Report: Good. The volumes remain in their original publisher’s cloth, presenting a sound and complete binding that is structurally tight, though cosmetically aged. The spines are heavily sunned, having faded from their original dark blue-green to a uniform light brown, exhibiting noticeable rubbing, bumping to the extremities, and a small vertical split to the cloth on the spine of the second volume. The boards themselves remain sturdy and attractive, retaining their striking central gilt crests, despite minor cloth bubbling, light scuffing, and edge wear. Internally, the text block is relatively firm, though the untrimmed fore and lower edges are darkened from accumulated dust. Moderate foxing is present throughout the preliminary leaves and title pages across the set, which is standard for the paper stock of this period, but this gives way to a generally cleaner interior with only occasional scattered spotting.

Catalogue Note: This set represents the first trade edition of Lord Lindsay's monumental family history, officially following the very limited four-volume edition printed privately in Wigan nearly a decade prior. It was printed by William Clowes and Sons and issued in these distinctive publisher's bindings.

The three volumes comprise an exhaustive genealogical study, but they are most highly prized for their inclusion of significant primary historical documents. As detailed in the contents, the work includes official correspondence from the Maroon War, alongside the celebrated personal narratives of Lady Anne Barnard and her siblings. Furthermore, the set calls for essential plates and genealogical charts, as noted in the binder's directions.
