Condition Report: Very Good. The original plum cloth binding remains sound and securely square, displaying remarkably bright, unoxidised gilt tooling to the front board. The spine cloth is slightly sunned with moderate rubbing and minor fraying at the head and tail, alongside some gentle bumping to the board corners, which is typical for a nineteenth-century children's instructional text. Internally, the binding is tight with no splitting to the hinges. The text block shows mild, scattered foxing that predominantly affects the preliminary and terminal leaves, but the pages are otherwise clean, supple, and free from major blemishes. A neat, contemporary ownership inscription from a student at the Cheltenham Ladies' College, dated 1896, is present on the front free endpaper.
