Condition Report: Very Good. The book is remarkably well-preserved for its age, maintaining excellent structural integrity with firm, tight hinges and no significant wear to the extremities. The original green cloth binding is exceptionally bright, while the gilt and black pictorial stamping on the front board and spine remains vibrant and completely unoxidised. The all-edges gilt text block is similarly bright and fresh. Internally, the pages are generally clean, though there is characteristic light foxing present primarily to the preliminary leaves, including the endpapers, frontispiece, and title page. Overall, a highly attractive, structurally sound copy.

Catalogue Note: This is a first edition of W. H. G. Kingston's historical maritime work, published in the original pictorial publisher's cloth. The book features a tissue-guarded frontispiece alongside numerous full-page and in-text wood engravings throughout (including illustrations signed by 'FAF').

Given its age and intended audience of young readers, finding a copy in such a remarkably bright and unrubbed state is highly unusual.
