Condition Report: Very Good. The publisher’s original, unrestored paneled calf-leather binding presents handsomely despite some expected age-related wear. The front board is loose at the joint but remains securely attached, while the rear board and spine are firm and square. The extremities exhibit general wear, including minor loss at the tail of the spine, faint rubbing at the foot, and surface scuffs with closed tears along the spine's length. The spine itself is otherwise well-preserved, showcasing five prominent raised bands and bright gilt-tooled decoration. The boards show surface scratching and scuffing consistent with an early eighteenth-century volume, yet they remain notably clean overall. Internally, the front endpaper bears a prominent crease and an early ink ownership inscription, though the text block appears bright with only the expected light age-toning and mild handling marks. The engraved frontispiece remains crisp and highly legible. A handsome, authentic example of an early Augustan binding.

Catalogue Note: This is the second edition of Matthew Prior's collected works, functioning as an early authorised printing. The volume features a striking engraved frontispiece designed by Louis Du Guernier.

The provenance is marked by an early ink inscription to the front endpaper reading, "This Author a Poet / And knew all Women".
