Condition Report: Very Good. The original red cloth boards remain firm and structurally sound, showing light shelf-wear with slightly bumped spine ends and a few minor, localised spots of discolouration to the front board. The spine exhibits typical sunning, though the gilt lettering and the Nelson’s Library wreath device remain bright and completely legible. The text block edges are somewhat darkened with typical dust-soiling, and the endpapers show moderate age-toning and offset. However, the binding remains notably tight and square, and the interior pages, including the illustrated frontispiece and decorated title page, are crisp, bright, and free from significant foxing or tears.

Catalogue Note: This copy is an early reprint published as part of the ubiquitous "Nelson's Library" series, identifiable by the publisher's blind-stamped crest to the front board and the characteristic gilt tooling on the spine. Originally published in 1908, this affordable yet handsome early 20th-century edition brought the Williamsons' popular fiction to a wider audience.

The title page features a striking Art Nouveau decorative border and is accompanied by a tipped-in frontispiece illustration of a lady.
