Condition Report Very Good. The original green cloth binding remains structurally sound and tight, though it exhibits the characteristic mottled staining and uneven fading commonly seen in early post-war Collins publications. The boards are otherwise well-preserved, free from severe corner bumping or significant edge-wear. Internally, the text block is crisp and bright, showing only minor, scattered spotting primarily confined to the preliminary leaves and edges, without intruding upon the text or the author's photographic plates. The original, unclipped dust jacket, retaining the 12s. 6d. net price, is highly presentable. It demonstrates light edge-wear, moderate age-toning, and scattered foxing to the front panel, rear panel, and flaps, but remarkably avoids any major tears or loss. An honestly graded, highly collectable copy.

Catalogue Note This is a true First Edition of The Badger, the inaugural volume in the esteemed 'New Naturalist Monograph' series. While the first fourteen volumes in the main New Naturalist series focused on broader surveys like insects, wild flowers, and natural habitats, this supplementary series was announced on the inside back flap to cater to detailed monographs. Finding early editions in their original, unclipped dust jackets is increasingly uncommon on the open market.

The volume is lavishly illustrated, featuring 29 black-and-white photographs, 12 maps and diagrams, and a striking colour frontispiece photographed by Neal himself in Somerset during April.
