Condition Report: Very Good. Bound in the original pictorial boards featuring a striking pelican and frog illustration to the front and a displaying peacock to the rear. The boards show typical rubbing to the extremities, with some localised wear and minor bumping to the corners and spine ends. There is some light, scattered spotting and surface wear along the front hinge and spine edge. Despite these external signs of handling, the thick board binding remains remarkably square and firm. Internally, the text block is bright and clean, free from significant foxing or toning. Crucially, the complex self-erecting pop-up models remain in excellent, working order, displaying vibrant colours and complete, intact mechanisms without the common tearing or flattening usually associated with this fragile title.

Catalogue Note: Published in 1932 for the 1933 Christmas market, this is the fourth volume in the pioneering series of pop-up annuals produced by the Daily Express. It features seven complex "self-erecting models," which utilise mechanisms patented by the editor, S. Louis Giraud (including British Patent No. 357169). Giraud’s innovations were distinct from earlier paper engineering, as they were designed to spring up automatically when the pages were opened and could be viewed from multiple angles.

The volume is profusely illustrated with full-page colour plates, line drawings, and the central pop-up panoramas, with artistic contributions from Jocelyn Hughes and others. The stories feature beloved contemporary characters, including a notable inclusion of a Rupert the Bear story ("Rupert and Bill Badger") by Mary Tourtel.

Early Giraud pop-up annuals are notoriously fragile due to the delicate paper engineering and the heavy paper stock used for the text block. Finding a copy on the open market with its binding intact and all intricate pop-up scenes in full, undamaged working order is increasingly scarce.

Fair	A book with significant wear or damage.
