Condition Report: Near Fine. A remarkably well-preserved example, particularly notable for the survival of its original, highly fragile printed glassine wrapper. The wrapper is now housed in a protective clear sleeve and presents excellently, showing only minor age-associated creasing and light toning, with no significant chips, tears, or loss to the printed design. Beneath the wrapper, the original publisher’s binding, featuring vibrant orange boards with a vivid, unrubbed pictorial illustration and a pristine red cloth spine, remains spectacularly bright, with sharp corners and entirely unfaded boards. The hinges are tight, the binding is square and firm, and the text block is exceptionally clean, showing only minimal traces of handling. The internal pages remain bright, and the beautiful colour plates are entirely fresh and vibrant.

Catalogue Note: First edition. A splendid example of a 1920s girls' annual, profusely illustrated throughout with black-and-white in-text drawings, numerous short stories, and striking full-colour plates, including a beautiful frontispiece depicting two schoolgirls canoeing.

This particular copy holds a charming contemporary provenance, bearing a neat ink gift inscription dated 'Xmas 1925' on the front free endpaper, alongside a discreet bookseller's blind stamp from 'Goose & Son Ltd. Booksellers & Stationers, Norwich.'

What truly elevates this copy is the extraordinarily rare survival of its original printed glassine wrapper. The Golden Annual for Girls was published by the Amalgamated Press from 1925 to 1939 as a standalone annual. While bare copies in cloth occasionally appear on the open market, locating a first-edition copy with the delicate, unbacked glassine wrapper still intact and legible is uncommonly scarce, making this a superb addition for collectors of early twentieth-century children's literature.
