Condition Report: Very Good. The original red cloth binding remains remarkably vivid and clean, exhibiting unoxidised black tooling to the front board and spine without any significant shelf-wear or bumping to the extremities. The binding is secure, housing a square and tightly bound text block. The text leaves are crisp, bright, and pleasingly free from noteworthy foxing, save for some very minor, standard age-toning along the page edges. The original dust jacket is preserved in an attractive, unclipped state (retaining the 5/- net flap price) and shows only mild rubbing, faint edge-creasing, and typical light dust-soiling to the lighter rear panel, yet it retains the full vibrancy of the cover illustration.

Catalogue Note: This issue is an early 5/- net cheap edition. While the title and copyright pages are undated, the rear panel of the dust jacket advertises Farnol's Murder by Nail (a title first issued in 1942), firmly dating this copy's production to the early-to-mid 1940s.

The front panel features the evocative, original wrapper artwork by renowned illustrator H.M. Brock. Finding early mid-century reprints retaining their original dust jackets in such sharp, well-preserved condition is increasingly uncommon on the open market, as these editions were often heavily read and discarded.
