Condition Report: Very Good. The pictorial paper boards remain remarkably bright and well-preserved, free from the heavy rubbing, spotting, or scratching typically found on ephemeral children's books of this period. The green cloth backstrip is intact, secure, and unfaded, holding the binding firmly with no loosening. The corners exhibit only the most marginal of wear, while the plain rear board shows a touch of light, even age-toning. Internally, the text block is wonderfully crisp and clean. The inner hinges are completely sound, and the charming chromolithograph plates retain their vivid, striking colours without any oxidisation or foxing to dull their appearance.

Catalogue Note: This delightful miniature book (Nister & Co. No. 1396) is a quintessential example of Ernest Nister’s celebrated output at the turn of the twentieth century. Produced in Germany, Nister’s printing operations in Nuremberg were globally renowned for their exceptionally high-quality colour lithography, the book features four full-page chromolithograph illustrations alongside several detailed monochrome line drawings. Such miniature children’s books were heavily handled and prone to destruction, making survivors in this tight and clean condition scarce on the open market.

A charming and beautifully illustrated turn-of-the-century tale following the wintertime adventures of three young schoolgirls and a mischievous dog named Fido. With its vibrant full-colour plates and engaging, humorous story, it offers a wonderful glimpse into the golden age of Victorian and Edwardian children's publishing.
