The half-calf binding remains structurally tight and remarkably sound, though it exhibits characteristic rubbing to the extremities, with the leather at the head and tail of the spine showing minor wear. The marbled boards retain much of their original vibrancy despite some light surface scuffing over the decades. Internally, the pages present a consistent, light age-toning typical of 19th-century paper, coupled with moderate foxing and occasional handling marks that are most pronounced on the preliminary leaves and title page. The hinges appear stable and intact. Catalogue Note: This 1844 publication is a scarce early edition of Thomas Jones’s comprehensive Welsh-language geographic treatise. As a schoolmaster, minister, and translator from Amlwch, Jones sought to bring educational and scientific texts to the monoglot Welsh reader, a mission beautifully encapsulated in this ambitious work. The text is notably augmented by eight folding maps, including a large double-hemisphere map of the world.

The volume possesses exceptional familial provenance, tracing generations of the Jones family of Guredog. The front board is distinguished by a custom red leather label stamped "MARY JONES" in gilt. Internally, the front endpapers and title page carry a layered history of ownership inscriptions, beginning with a touching presentation across the title page reading "John Elias Jones Guredog, From His Mother, 1861".
