Condition Report: Near Fine. The blue cloth boards remain remarkably clean with sharp corners and bright gilt lettering to the spine, completely free from rubbing or bumping. The binding is taut and square, maintaining excellent structural integrity without any sagging. Internally, the pages are crisp, white, and unblemished, with no signs of foxing or age-toning to the text block or page edges. The original, unclipped dust wrapper (priced at 50s net) retains its vibrant colours on the front panel and spine; however, it shows minor surface rubbing and faint dustiness to the white rear panel, alongside absolute minimal shelf wear to the extreme tips.

Catalogue Note: This is a true first edition of Wally Herbert’s early autobiographical work, published prior to his legendary and undisputed Trans-Arctic Expedition. The volume is notably illustrated with Herbert's own maps and a selection of black-and-white photographic plates that document his time surveying the Antarctic plateau.
