Condition Report: Near Fine. Bound in a handsome later half dark green morocco over marbled boards, the spine divided by five raised bands, featuring blind-tooled detailing to the bands, gilt rules, and bright gilt lettering. The binding is tight, square, and robust, presenting exceptionally well with virtually no shelf-wear and crisp, unoxidised tooling to the spine. Internally, the text block is sound with secure hinges. The endpapers and preliminary leaves, including the printed title page, exhibit some mild, scattered foxing and age-toning, primarily localised to the margins and the gutter, but the main body of the text remains clean and supple. A highly attractive and well-preserved volume.

Catalogue Note: The complete, twelve-issue run of Bachelors' Papers, a scarce monthly serial of miscellaneous literature printed and distributed in Liverpool between 1870 and 1871. Complete runs of this short-lived regional periodical are exceedingly rare on the open market, with institutional holdings being similarly sparse.

A highly notable feature within this serial is Issue No. 3, which contains an early mountaineering account by the Liverpool naturalist Isaac Cooke Thompson detailing his ascent of Mont Blanc, complete with a rare photographic illustration. Thompson was a prominent marine biologist and a founding member of the Liverpool Biological Society, adding significant regional and scientific interest to this publication.

The volume boasts excellent provenance, featuring the armorial bookplate of George E. Thompson to the front pastedown, complete with the family motto 'In Lumine Luce'. George E. Thompson was himself a highly regarded Liverpool photographer, lecturer, and author of travel works, making this an appealing association copy of a scarce provincial printing.

A handsome and exceedingly rare complete run of the short-lived 1870s Liverpool literary periodical, Bachelors' Papers. Featuring an early, photographically illustrated account of a Mont Blanc ascent by naturalist Isaac Cooke Thompson, this volume offers a fascinating glimpse into Victorian provincial publishing and scientific exploration. Attractively bound in half morocco and bearing the bookplate of the prominent Liverpool photographer George E. Thompson, this is a scarce survival of regional literary and mountaineering history.
