Condition Report: Very Good. The pictorial paper-covered boards remain notably bright, with rubbing and wear primarily isolated to the extremities, most notably the corners and the head and tail of the spine. Unlike many copies that suffer heavy loss or complete splitting, the spine backstrip remains largely intact and robust. Internally, the binding is secure with a tight, square text block. The pages are clean with only minor age-toning and mild occasional spotting. Crucially, the fragile, chromolithograph pop-up models (such as the showcased "Gorgeous Butterfly") are completely intact, functional, and retain their striking vibrancy, escaping the heavy creasing and tearing typical of movable children's books from this era. A highly respectable, well-preserved example.

Catalogue Note: This is a first edition of the inaugural Bookano Stories annual (No. 1), edited by S. Louis Giraud. Published in the mid-1930s, the Bookano series marked a significant milestone in twentieth-century children's literature. These volumes were recognised as some of the first truly "automatic" books; rather than requiring the reader to manually pull tabs or lift flaps, the simple act of turning the page revealed a fully formed, three-dimensional pop-up that could be viewed from multiple angles.

This specific volume features a wealth of lively verse and stories alongside three full-page colour plates and six intricate pop-up models, including 'In The Jungle', 'The Goblin Carpenters' Shop', and 'Dick Turpin's Ride'.
