Condition Report: Very Good. The original grey cloth binding remains notably firm and square, presenting bright gilt lettering to the spine and showing only gentle bumping to the extremities. The text block is generally clean and tightly bound, though the top and fore-edges exhibit moderate foxing and dust-soiling that encroaches slightly onto the margins of the preliminary leaves, including the half-title and title page. The front endpapers reveal minor offset staining near the upper hinge, with a few faint spots of foxing scattered across the first few pages. Housed in a clear protective sleeve, the original unclipped dust jacket remains highly presentable but displays a few minor flaws, most notably a small nick and light rubbing to the head of the spine panel, along with mild edge-wear and light surface toning to the rear panel.

Catalogue Note: First English language edition, forming part of 'The Collected English Edition of the Novels of François Mauriac,' issued following the author's receipt of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1952.
