Condition Report Good. The book is bound in the publisher's original gilt-decorated red cloth, which presents handsomely but shows moderate wear consistent with its age. The front board bears a dark stain and a small abrasion to the lower centre, alongside bumping and rubbing to the corners. The spine is slightly faded with notable rubbing and softening to the head and tail, while the rear joint exhibits early signs of fraying and splitting to the cloth; however, the binding remains completely sound and tight. All edges are brightly gilt. Internally, the grey endpapers are fully intact, featuring the engraved armorial bookplate of W. S. Adams on the front pastedown. The text block is generally clean and firmly set, with scattered spotting and foxing predominantly confined to the preliminary pages, the blank leaves adjoining the frontispiece, and occasionally throughout the margins, not detracting from the intricate steel plates and wood engravings.
