Condition Report: Near Fine. The binding is remarkably firm and square, with the original orange cloth boards remaining bright, sharply cornered, and entirely unfaded. The spine ends show virtually no shelf-wear, retaining their structural integrity. Internally, the text block is bright, crisp, and completely free from any previous ownership markings, foxing, or toning, presenting as an unread copy. The original unclipped pictorial dust jacket (priced 27/6 net) is equally impressive, retaining its vibrant, unfaded colours with only the most trivial hints of rubbing to the extremities, displaying no tears, chipping, or significant flaws, thereby fully justifying the Near Fine grade.

Catalogue Note: This is the first UK edition, which was released in the US that same year under the alternative title The Jacklove Affair. Featuring striking wrap-around jacket art, this edition beautifully captures the aesthetic of late-sixties countercultural literature.

Copies of this true first UK printing in such meticulously preserved condition are remarkably scarce on the open market. While a small number of surviving copies exist, they almost invariably suffer from fading, edge-wear, heavy foxing, or library markings, making a bright, unclipped example highly desirable.

Set against the backdrop of the dilapidated Jackpine Hotel, Jacklove explores the eccentricities, tensions, and inevitable conflicts of a burgeoning co-sexual commune. When a diverse cast of characters converges on the ranch to experiment with free love and a rejection of societal norms, their fragile utopian existence is continuously tested. From the arrival of a greedy new recruit and the resulting romantic entanglements, to a nervous breakdown in the laundry room and the impending arrival of a wealthy, demanding matriarch, the community is stretched to its absolute limits.
