Condition Report: Very Good. The book presents attractively in the publisher's original dark cloth, with the gilt titling to the spine and front board remaining remarkably bright and unoxidised. The boards show minor signs of shelf-wear, primarily consisting of light bumping to the corners and mild crinkling at the head and tail of the spine. The spine itself exhibits a very slight lean but remains firm, with the binding tight and secure. The text block edges are uniformly toned, as is customary for paper of this era, while internally the pages are generally clean, displaying only faint offsetting to the early preliminary leaves and minor, scattered foxing. Overall, a highly presentable and well-preserved copy.

Catalogue Note: This is a First Edition, First Issue, complete with the catalogue of advertisements at the rear dated July 1895, which serves as the primary bibliographical marker for the true first issue (McKay #23; Scott #27).

The volume is presented in the original bevelled cloth binding and features 20 striking illustrations by F. S. Wilson, including a tissue-guarded frontispiece.
