Condition Report: Very Good. The original publisher's boards are well-preserved, remaining sturdy and clean with only slight rubbing to the extremities and very minor bumping to the corners. The binding is remarkably firm and square. Internally, the pages are notably crisp and bright, showing only faint, localised age-toning typical of the era, and remaining entirely free from any foxing or obtrusive marks. The accompanying original dust-jacket is fair, exhibiting significant signs of handling and wear; this includes creasing, edge-rubbing, and a large open tear with considerable loss to the top edge of the rear panel. Additional chipping and closed tears are present along the spine ends and panel edges, though the front cover illustration remains remarkably vibrant and intact.

Catalogue Note: This is a true First Edition of this mid-century children's title. The volume is heavily illustrated throughout with wonderful, candid black-and-white photographs by Paul Kaye, who collaborated with the author to document the real-life antics of a puppy and a kitten.

While the author's standard fictional output is widely available and deeply catalogued, these specific photographic collaborations are somewhat uncommon on the open market. Locating a true First Edition that still retains its original dust-jacket, even one exhibiting the flaws and tears commensurate with a heavily handled children's book of this vintage, is increasingly difficult for collectors of her wider bibliography.
