Condition Report: Very Good. The publisher's original red cloth binding remains remarkably firm and tight, avoiding the common peril of detached boards or severe spine lean frequently found in heavily utilised travel guides of this era. The gilt tooling to the front board and spine remains notably bright and unoxidised, though there is some light rubbing and minor shelf-wear to the spine extremities and corners, alongside a few faint, historic handling marks to the cloth. The attractively marbled text block edges have maintained their distinct pattern, albeit with slight dulling commensurate with age. Internally, the pages are clean and well-preserved with typical, mild age-toning. The front endpapers and the folding map opposite the title page are securely attached, and the internal hinges are holding strong without cracking.

Catalogue Note: This fourth edition, remodelled and augmented, provides an extensive historical snapshot of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Southern Germany towards the late nineteenth century.
