Condition Report: Very Good. The original red cloth boards remain remarkably bright and clean, boasting crisp black ruled borders and lettering with negligible shelf-wear, while the binding stays perfectly tight and square. Internally, the text block is highly presentable; the pages exhibit only the mild, uniform age-toning typical of wartime-era paper stock, completely free from foxing, damp staining, or obtrusive prior ownership markings. The accompanying unclipped dust jacket displays expected signs of age including edge-wear, minor chipping to the spine ends and corners, and general surface rubbing. The white spine panel and rear cover have darkened from handling, yet the front cover's striking illustration remains vibrant, making this a highly attractive surviving copy.

Catalogue Note: This copy is a mid-twentieth-century reprint of Farnol's immensely popular debut novel, identifiable by the publisher's list on the dust jacket and preliminary pages, which advertise titles up to 1942's Murder by Nail and 1943's The King Liveth. Produced during the Second World War era, the volume features the iconic wrap-around dust jacket artwork by John Morton Sale, bringing the novel's Regency-era romanticism to life.

Surviving mid-century reprints that retain their original dust jackets in a presentable state have become increasingly uncommon on the open market, particularly with the cloth binding preserved in such exceptional condition.
