The original green pictorial wrappers remain remarkably bright and attractive, exhibiting only the expected light edge-wear, gentle rubbing, and faint reading creases to the spine typical of wartime digest paperbacks. The binding is reassuringly secure with no separation, and the spine ends show only minor chipping that does not detract from the book's overall squareness. A touch of surface abrasion is present to the lower rear wrapper, alongside subtle corner bumping. Internally, the text block is sound; the pages display customary and uniform age-toning given the cheaper paper stock of the era, yet remain clean, supple, and entirely free from foxing or heavy blemishes, presenting a highly readable and solid copy.

Catalogue Note: This is the Bestseller Mystery digest edition (No. B22) of Gardner’s acclaimed novel, issued as a lightly abridged version in a standard wartime pulp format.
