Condition Report: Near Fine. The binding is remarkably tight, with the original boards remaining clean, sharp at the corners, and devoid of any significant bumping or shelf-wear. The silver lettering to the spine remains notably bright and unrubbed. Internally, the text block is clean and squarely bound, with the pages presenting as crisp and free from foxing or unintentional markings. The unclipped dust jacket is equally well-preserved, retaining its striking black and green cover with only the most marginal edge-wear to the extreme upper spine. An exceptional, highly presentable copy.

Catalogue Note: This is the first UK edition, first printing of Michel Tournier’s acclaimed short story collection in English, translated by Barbara Wright. The work was originally published in French under the title Le Coq de bruyère by Editions Gallimard in 1978.
