Condition Report: Very Good. The original publisher's blue cloth remains remarkably bright, with the elaborate gilt tooling to the front board and spine retaining a crisp, unoxidised shine. There is minor wear to the extremities, most notably light rubbing and slight fraying to the spine head and tail, along with gently bumped corners. The blind-stamped panelling on the rear board remains sharp, and the binding is wonderfully tight and secure. All edges gilt remain brilliant. Internally, the pages present beautifully clean and bright, without any notable foxing or spotting. A handsome, well-preserved example of a delicate Victorian binding.

Catalogue Note: This is the First English Edition to feature the exquisite neoclassical illustrations by the French romantic painter Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy (often known as Girodet-Trioson). The text is Thomas Moore's celebrated translation of Anacreon's Odes, which first brought the Teian poet's lyrical celebrations to a wide English-speaking audience.

Bound in the publisher's striking original blue cloth, the book is elaborately blocked in gilt, featuring a central vignette of a classical figure with a lyre, framed by ornate floral borders.
