Condition Report: Very Good. The binding remains remarkably tight and square, featuring crisp, dark blue cloth boards that exhibit minimal shelf-wear and retain bright, unoxidised gilt lettering and sharp blind-stamped crests. Internally, the pages are clean and bright, with only the expected mild, uniform age-toning to the text block and pleasing rough-cut bottom edges. The scarce original dust wrapper is present and largely intact; it displays characteristic age-toning, particularly to the spine panel, along with minor chipping and creasing at the spine ends and corners. Despite these minor flaws, it remains a highly presentable and structurally sound example of a fragile survival.

Catalogue Note: This 1928 Clarendon Press publication represents the celebrated academic standard edition edited by James Blanton Wharey. Meticulously compiled and collated from early editions of Bunyan's text, Wharey's work became the definitive scholarly reference for the classic allegory, later famously revised by Roger Sharrock in 1960.

Copies of this early 1928 'Blue Cloth Edition' are uncommon on the open market, and they become genuinely scarce when accompanied by their original, unrestored dust wrappers. This copy features the publisher's advertisement for the 'Oxford English Texts' series printed on the rear panel of the wrapper, dated December 1928.
