Condition Report: Fine. The scarcely seen decorated parchment binding remains remarkably clean, firm, and structurally sound, showing only the faintest expected age-toning to the extremities and spine. The elaborate gilt foliate and scroll tooling across both boards and the spine remains exceedingly bright and unoxidised, displaying wonderfully without rubbing or loss. The hinges and joints are tight and secure, exhibiting no signs of splitting, weakness, or the warping that frequently affects parchment over time. Internally, the text-block is highly commendable; the fine paper is bright, supple, and entirely free from foxing, handling marks, or prominent blemishes. A truly lovely, exceptionally well-preserved copy that easily justifies its high grade.

Catalogue Note: This Fine-Paper Edition is distinguished by its exquisite and scarcely seen decorated parchment binding. While these pocket-sized volumes were typically issued in standard cloth or limp leather, this specialized binding elevates the format into a true collector's piece, lavishly adorned with intricate Arts and Crafts-style gilt tooling on both the front and rear boards.

The volume is further enhanced by a striking woodcut frontispiece by Walter Crane, adding a distinct visual charm to Stevenson's classic travelogue. The title page is attractively printed in red and black ink.

Adding a touch of personal history, the front free endpaper bears a neat ink inscription reading "Elvira Ross from D.R. Blinfion" and dated December 1920. Due to the fragile nature of parchment bindings, encountering a copy in such well-preserved condition on the open market is quite uncommon.
