Condition Report: Very Good. Bound in the publisher's original plain wrappers, this volume exhibits the standard signs of handling commensurate with a fragile working proof. The binding remains structurally tight and secure, though the unlettered spine shows some expected creasing and a minor forward lean. The cream wrappers display light overall dust-soiling and gentle edge-wear, accompanied by minor shallow chipping to the extremities of the spine joints. Internally, while the visible page block edges are slightly darkened with age and dust, the pages themselves remain largely unblemished and free from severe foxing. Ultimately, it is a remarkably solid and highly presentable survivor of a format that was inherently designed to be ephemeral.

Catalogue Note: This is an uncorrected advance proof copy of the first volume of Randolph S. Churchill’s definitive biography of his father. Bound in the customary plain, unlettered wrappers, this advance issue features a photographic frontispiece portrait of a young Winston Churchill in his military uniform.

Of particular note is the publisher’s bespoke treatment of this advance copy: the half-title page features the printed statement 'This proof copy has been prepared for', which has been meticulously completed in contemporary blue ink with the recipient's name, 'Messrs. C.K. Broadhurst., Southport.'.

Furthermore, the book is accompanied by the original loosely inserted publisher's letter. Dated 5th August 1966, typed on publisher letterhead, and signed by the Home Sales Director, T.R. Manderson, the correspondence urges the recipient to treat the proof as strictly confidential prior to the official world publication date.
